The week seems to have flown by. The last time I blogged on Rech Reads was Sunday. I am not sure what happened this week except that I seemed to be busy and tired.
My class this semester, Web 2.0 with a focus on social media software in libraries, is getting a bit more intense. I enjoy the content and have learned lots. I can't wait to have the opportunity to use it in a "real" library setting. Until then I have been working on a group project that is due in early May. I am finding the group project fun and am enjoying the other students I am working with (thanks PJ, Carol and Chelka!). We are using a variety of social software tools to connect including Google Wave, Google Documents, Skype and email. We each live in a different state (Wisconsin, Oregon, Illinois and California) and two different time zones. For our project we must create a proprosal for a library to implement social media software. Currently, our group is starting with Facebook and Blogger. Our library, Fauxbrary, is a small library with four professional staff, no web presence (until now) and no budget for social media software. If you are a Facebook user and would like to help us out we would love some fans who are willing to comment and participate. We are currently generating content and ideas, so keep visiting and checking out what we are up to!

If you haven't yet, I would recommend taking a look a the book Trust Agents by Seth Godin and Julien Smith. They don't talk about libraries, but their early sections about becoming a trust agent, sharing answers to questions online and promoting other people on your social media have really changed how I think about the social media I use at my library. It looks like you've got lots of content already on your FB page which is half the challenge sometimes.
Thanks for the recommendation! I will take a look.
